Interim Superintendent Bill Esterbrook has confirmed that all schools will be in session Tuesday, May 1, 2012, following school bus vandalism over the weekend.

The Durango School District 9-R Board of Education announces that it has agreed to offer Daniel J. Snowberger the position of Superintendent after last night's board meeting, pending a successful contract negotiation and positive outcome of an on-site visit. 

At its March 26th board work session, the Durango School District 9-R Board of Education selected two finalists from a pool of 25 candidates for the superintendent position.  They are as follows:

A Special School Board Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. in the 9-R Board Room in the Administration Building.   This purpose of this meeting is to interview board candidates for the Director District B vacancy, and possibly appoint.  All are welcome.   A copy of the proposed agenda can be found at http://www.boarddocs.com/co/dsd/Board.nsf/Public by 5:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, March 6, 2012, the Board of Education held a Board/Community Budget Work Session/Meeting to discuss 9-R’s Annual Budget.  Laine Gibson (9-R’s Chief Financial Officer) presented information on the state of funding for 2012-2013 and provided an update on projects the district is researching or has implemented based on suggestions from the last two community budget work sessions. To view Mr. Gibson’s budget presentation, please click on the link below. 

The Durango School District 9-R Board of Education has selected McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, to assist them in the important task of selecting superintendent candidates for the board to interview.

The Durango School District 9-R Summer Academy is currently seeking current employees and community members interested in teaching summer courses. Instructors in the Summer Academy Program set their own curriculum and work with students who are excited about their subject! We especially need science and modern languages teachers. Summer Academy Instructors do not have to have a teaching credential as this is an enrichment program.

Escalante Middle School proudly announces its intent to become a vibrant member of the Expeditionary Learning network for the 2012-2013 school year. After a year-long exploration of Expeditionary Learning (EL) and International Baccalaureate (IB) models, the staff of Escalante overwhelmingly (82%) approved the EL model. EL is exemplified by project-based, interdisciplinary learning with emphasis on high levels of student engagement, achievement, and character development.

DURANGO, CO – December 27, 2011 --- DHS Principal Diane Lashinsky has announced that Klint Chandler resigned Thursday, December 15, 2011, as the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Durango High School. His resignation is effective immediately. 

Miller Middle School invites parents to attend a Middle Years Program International Baccalaureate (MYP IB) informational session from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8^th or Thursday, January 19^th in Miller Middle School’s auditorium.   Miller staff will introduce the MYP program, and the history of its year long process. Following the brief overview, we will take parents' questions and ask them to share their input. All are welcome.  

At approximately 9:30 p.m., a heat lamp in the tortoise terrarium caused a straw basket to catch on fire.  The fire was contained to the basket only but smoke circulated through the building.  Due to the smoke going throughout the building, and in an effort to keep our students and staff members safe, school will be canceled today, Friday, November 4, 2011.

School will resume as normal at Monday, November 7, 2011.

DURANGO SCHOOL DISTRICT 9-R LA PLATA COUNTY, COLORADO CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTORS The Board of Education of Durango School District 9-R in the County of La Plata, State of Colorado, calls for nominations of candidates for school directors to be placed on the ballot for the regular biennial school election to be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2011. At this election four (4) directors will be elected representing director districts A, B, D and G, for a term of office of four years.

9-R has just received air quality test results from the Environmental Lab that re-tested air samples this morning at Durango High School. Their report indicates that intensive cleaning has reduced mold spore counts to within recommended levels. Therefore, Durango High School will reopen for classes on Friday, May 20th.
