Interim Superintendent Bill Esterbrook has confirmed that all schools will be in session Tuesday, May 1, 2012, following school bus vandalism over the weekend.
Transportation personnel reported to work on Monday morning to discover that all the tires on every bus in the Bus Barn had been flattened. In an effort to keep students and staff members safe, school was cancelled for the day until the extent of the vandalism to each bus could be determined. This incident is currently being investigated by the Durango Police Department.
“The Transportation Department has performed impressively today and have cleared all buses to roll tomorrow morning,” said Mr. Esterbrook. “I’d like to extend a big thank you to all of our 9-R personnel in our transportation and facility departments who worked so diligently and vigorously through this challenge. I’d also like to acknowledge CDOT, The City of Durango, and Bond’s Construction for helping our 9-R staff members by providing personnel and/or equipment to help complete the needed vehicle inspections.”
