Escalante Set for Expeditionary Learning (EL) in 2012-2013

Escalante Middle School proudly announces its intent to become a vibrant member of the Expeditionary Learning network for the 2012-2013 school year. After a year-long exploration of Expeditionary Learning (EL) and International Baccalaureate (IB) models, the staff of Escalante overwhelmingly (82%) approved the EL model. EL is exemplified by project-based, interdisciplinary learning with emphasis on high levels of student engagement, achievement, and character development.   The 150 EL Schools are models of comprehensive school reform based on the educational ideas of German educator Kurt Hahn, the founder of Outward Bound.

Escalante’s administration will soon be setting up informational meetings for parents to attend. The meetings will provide information regarding the process Escalante has taken to reach the decision to adopt EL, provide an overview of the EL program, and an opportunity for parents and community members to ask questions and provide input. For additional information regarding Expeditionary Learning, visit http://elschools.org
