The evening was wind-whipped cold, but sentiments were warm during the Green Ribbon Cutting. On Nov. 18, Durango School District dignitaries, Veregy officials, and Jacobs construction representatives were on hand to cut a ribbon representing a lot of work and deep commitment to sustainability.

Bus riders, be sure to show your student ID card when boarding

We are reaching out to inform you of an important policy regarding student transportation. To ensure the safety of all students and to keep accurate records of who is riding each bus, students are required to present their student ID card when boarding. This policy helps us maintain a secure environment, knowing exactly who is on each bus in case of an emergency.

Voters approve 2024 Investing in Our Schools Bond

A win for our schools! Durango School District 9-R Ballot Issue 4A has passed “by a large margin,” according to results as of Nov. 6, showing 61.27% of people voted in favor, and 38.73% were opposed.

'Cyber-Safe Kids' on Nov. 18 will give guidance on internet safety

Durango School District invites staff and parents/guardians to join a live presentation, “Cyber-Safe Kids: Strategies for Online Protection,” on Nov. 18 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Impact Career Innovation Center on the Durango High School campus. Mayor Pro Tem Yazzie inducted into Park's Native American Hallways of Heritage

On Nov. 7, students in Park Elementary School’s Native American Crew welcomed Mayor Pro Tem Gilda Yazzie for the unveiling of an honorary poster of her in the school’s Native American Hallways of Heritage. Multiple posters line several hallways, beginning about 50 feet from the front entrance of the school.

Superintendent's Message

Welcome to beautiful Durango and La Plata County! Our schools – and our community – are committed to ensuring all students reach proficiency in all content areas as well as have a high level of social-emotional well-being. Our primary objective in the Durango School District is to help every student achieve their life's purpose through Portrait of a Graduate. This is our district's "north star." It inspires students to find their Ikigai. This is a Japanese concept that incorporates four essential criteria: what you love (your passion), what the world needs (your mission), what you are good at (your vocation), and what you can get paid for (your profession). East meets West with this ancient philosophy in a modern mountain town.

Durango is a beautiful place to live and work. It is located at 6,512 feet elevation in Southwest Colorado near the Four Corners region. This land is also the ancestral home of or served as a site of trade, gathering, or healing for Apache, Pueblo, Diné, and other nations.
