To honor the long history of Durango’s former high school, the public is invited to the “107 Years of Education” exhibit. Curated items unearthed during the move include yearbooks, trophies, diplomas, graffiti from past theater students, photos, desks, furniture, a letterman’s jacket, record player and more dating from 1917 to 1976 – the years the building was used as a high school. Visitors are welcome to look through a full set of old yearbooks and an impressive collection of trophies. These items are not for sale: Some will be displayed at the new administrative office, and others will be donated to the Animas Museum. Former students of the building are invited to record their memories in a virtual scrapbook.
To manage the logistics of moving 46 staff members and a century of accumulated items on three floors, the district will also host an online pre-sale and an in-person District Office Moving Sale, open to all community members. Varied furniture and office items for sale will include desks, chairs, tables, bookcases, filing cabinets, and old auditorium seating. The “107 Years of Education” exhibit and the District Office Moving Sale will be held on the same day.
- March 22-29 – Online Community Pre-Sale begins. Items will be listed on the district website’s Surplus and Obsolete Items page. There will be photos, descriptions, and price list of items. Buyers must pick up and transport items on Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- April 13, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Community Moving Sale & “107 Years of Education” Exhibit at the District Administrative Office, 210 E. 12th St. Staff will escort visitors through the building’s three floors to view and purchase tagged items for sale. Buyers must pick up items from the first floor of the building April 25-27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
All proceeds from the moving sale will be used to support the district in moving expenses for the new building in Bodo Park. For more information, email [email protected].
