Non-medical exemptions
In 2020, Senate Bill 20-163 was passed to create an “equal-effort” system, whereby parents seeking an non-medical exemption are required to submit the same kind of documentation as a parent seeking a medical exemption or a parent submitting their child’s immunization records to their school. The legislation created a Certificate of Non-Medical Exemption, which is maintained by the state health department, that needs to be submitted to the school. The Certificate must be obtained either from an immunizing provider who signs the form or through completion of an online educational module about vaccination. This Certificate can be completed once for child care, and must be completed again before kindergarten and every subsequent year that the parent still wishes to claim a non-medical exemption for their child.(Immunize Colorado)
In the fall of 2024, every child attending a Durango School District 9-R school or child care facility must have a complete immunization record or exemption submitted to their school, or the child will be unable to attend school until they are compliant with this state law. If you plan to have a Certificate of non-medical exemption for your child, please note that the date of the exemption must be on or after July 1, 2024 for the '24-'25 school year. The online module may be accessed here.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
