'Cyber-Safe Kids' on Nov. 18 will give guidance on internet safety

Detective Josh Newman from Durango Police Department (DPD) will lead the session. Drawing from his experience investigating internet crimes, Detective Newman will share practical guidance on safeguarding children online. The event will also feature resources and support from the Sexual Assault Services Organization (SASO), with counselors available for anyone needing assistance during the presentation.

Attendees will learn how to set up privacy controls, foster open conversations about online interactions, help kids recognize risky behaviors, and understand cyberbullying reporting tools. A Q&A will follow.

Detective Newman has over 17 years of law enforcement experience, including 13 years with DPD. As DPD’s Internet Crimes Against Children investigator, he’s led multiple high-profile cases and offers valuable community training on internet safety.
